We were rehanging some of our art from Michele Banks today. The first is on a wall in our family room. The second is on the wall of our downstairs, guest bathroom, which we just repainted.
Where is yours? You do have some “Artologica” Art, don’t you?
This week’s big science story was a major “oops” moment, as a scientist cleaning out a storage room last week at a lab on the National Institutes of Health’s Bethesda campus discovered a box containing vials of smallpox virus, a deadly pathogen. In light of this troubling incident, this week’s science cat, from the wonderful Fake Science, reminds us that smart scientists always use extreme caution when handling potentially dangerous things.
My birthday cake created by my kids (with help from my mother). It features a whale shark, a starfish, an octopus, and bioluminescent plankton/animalcules.
On average, I’m not old, but there is significant variance across my body. Certain joints etc. have accrued a bit more mileage over the years. To celebrate my birthday, I’ve created an illustrated annotation of all the significant injuries I’ve suffered over a variety of activities (color coded for the most major contributors).

The underlying drawing is a badly modified version (to make up for bad photography) of a pencil drawing of me playing rugby that my mother gave me as a college graduation gift.
