The Physics of Otters

This strip from Karl Kerschl’s The Abominable Charles Christopher sits at the intersection of art, science, and otters – a place I like to call “home”.

Neither Karl nor I vouch for the equations represented as being either perfectly accurate or the most relevant. Rather they serve as symbols representing the mechanics that go into making something as delightful as an otter sliding into the water. We do, however, provide a comment thread, if you would like to engage in a few rounds of cathartic pedantry (I know I do from time to time).

You can and should follow Karl on Twitter and The Abominable Charles Christopher on tumblr.

In the wake of the Russian meteorite over Chelyabinsk, Russia, Minouette compiled a fascinating look at how objects from space running into our fair planet have inspired art throughout of human history.

Cultural relevance

In a post for Convergent Ed, John Romano makes a compelling case for being “with it” as an educator and communicator. He admits to watching TMZ – every night! Why? Because analogies and metaphors are only effective tools if the reference imagery is relevant to your audience.

On the front lines of education, there is no room for intellectual vanity.

National Geographic has created a tumblr blog, Found, showcasing curated images from its archives to celebrate its 125th anniversary. If this is not the blog that tumblr was created to host, I don’t know what is.

No place like home

Frasier’s Apartment Floorplan by Inaki Aliste Lizarralde (Copyright-Inaki Aliste Lizarralde; Used with Permission)

TV homes can be confusing. In reality, the rooms can be different sets. It can make it hard to figure out exactly how one space relates to another. Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde has come to our rescue with colorful and detailed floorplans from modern and classic (and modern classic TV shows). Some are going mad for the Big Bang Theory floorplan, but the Simpsons and Frasier are my jam. Just look at the detailed layout of the magical, sound proof kitchen!

Iñaki, if you are taking suggestions, The Cosby Show and Full House? Pretty please.
